Hurray! It’s May!
As school leaders we may be thinking, “May this school year be over.”
From the first of April until mid-June the school year goes at top speed.
There are many school tasks and life events such as graduations, weddings, ballgames, birthday parties and on and on.
What becomes important before planning the next school year, in my experience, is that you take a few minutes to reflect on the past year's accomplishments, difficulties, challenges, and opportunities.
During the course of the year it can feel like the pace of the school year is constant, with days filled with one crisis after another.
Today, for a few minutes, stop.
Stop and collect your thoughts about all the things that went well, along with the disappoinments and the challenges.
What opportunities and challenges can you foresee? Can a bit of reflection today make the next school year go smoother?
Download this worksheet, Reflections On The Past Year, and celebrate your successes.
This exercise is also great to offer at a staff meeting.
Reflect, then celebrate!
Celebrate the important work you and your community do everyday to help children and families.
Put it into action!
